WORKFORCE SERVICES AVAILABLE FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANES KATRINA AND RITA

  • JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE – Job matching and referral to area employers for full and part-time employment opportunities.
     
  • PUBLIC SERVICE EMPLOYMENT – Temporary employment with local public and nonprofit agencies providing services to other hurricane victims. Provides up to 30 hours of work per week for up to six months.
     
  • VOCATIONAL/OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING – Short-term training for jobs in such areas as construction trades, certified nurses aide, early childhood development, security guard, and logistics/inventory control.
     
  • SPECIAL WORKSHOPS – Workshops on such topics as resume writing, interviewing skills, stress management/coping skills, financial management/counseling, life-skills.
     
  • WORK-RELATED SUPPORTIVE SERVICES – Services such as transportation, work clothing, child care, etc. to help obtain/retain employment and/or participate in training activities.
